What is Distance Education?

Distance education is a learning model where students and instructors are not physically located in the same place (they do not have to be). This type of education uses evolving software technologies to provide students with new educational materials, teaching, and learning opportunities. Distance education is implemented using computers, tablets, smartphones, video conferencing technologies, and other digital tools, operating on internet infrastructure.

Distance education can include:

  1. Online Classes: Students can watch their instructors' classes on online platforms (synchronously and/or asynchronously) and access materials.

  2. Video Conferences: Students and educators can come together and conduct interactive lessons through live video conferences.

  3. E-books and Digital Materials: Students can support their learning processes by using digital materials such as e-books, educational videos, and online resources provided to them.

  4. Independent Study: Students can independently research a specific topic and use offline learning materials.

  5. Customized Learning: Distance education offers students the opportunity to learn at their own pace (and the number of repetitions they need), allowing each student to have a learning experience tailored to their needs.

Distance education provides students with more access and offers a flexible learning experience that transcends geographical boundaries. Particularly, working adults can continue their education through distance education while maintaining their jobs or fulfilling family responsibilities. However, distance education is a type of learning that requires discipline and self-control. Therefore, it emphasizes the need for high self-motivation and self-discipline in students.

(*) Synchronous: Synchronous learning is education where students and instructors come together in a virtual environment in real-time, conducted independently of location. Our synchronous classes take place through the Learning Management System (LMS) at the designated time in the course schedule.

(**) Asynchronous: Asynchronous learning takes place outside the constraints of time and place. Individuals can learn at their own pace and enhance their intrinsic motivation. All asynchronous materials are created by our expert team based on instructional design principles and are common lessons.
